Something About People

People love people. People hate people. Nothing is ever unconditional with human beings. Those who hate might start loving when you prosper. They'll even talk about how they know you and how you grew up together. But when you're a have-not they'll use you as a bad example.

Don't be like him or her!

I like to stare occasionally. Mostly at nature. It makes me see finer details that you cannot see with a glance. I lay flat on the ground after some extreme aerobics. The sky is beautiful. Blue with patches of cumulus and nimbus. The dying sun shone its rays through cumulus clouds giving them golden angelic glow. The moon creeped its way slowly behind the clouds as if chasing the sun. It was like looking at God's canvas. Painted with utmost detail. Lovely.

I wrote this section sitted at the chief's office. On a bench, quite heavy I could feel, probably made from an elgon teak tree. Before me, sat an old man in a very old suit, raggered at the shoulder joints. He had on dusty shoes and school-boy socks. The heels of the shoes were inclined on one side because the other side was worn out. He dressed the part to symbolize the lowest governing office in the country. I couldn't understand why it is called "Office of the President" when the is nothing presidential about it. Apart from Uhuru's portrait dangling on the wall.

On my right was a teacher, an assumption I made, he had on oversize official trousers and an oversize shirt neatly tucked in. On the left was an old woman,  nicely cleaned up and clad,  but the old-person smell had stuck. We were all waiting in line to speak to the chief. I was making a bursary application for my small sister. The wait was long and hollow like their sieling. There was one big hole on the right corner and not the kind you climb in. Rain had also made sure it drew some maps on remnant ceiling board.

I was getting bored so I turned to the only refuge I know, my phone. I came across a meme. Funny. But deep. Only when you take a close enough look. It goes;

It's funny how neighbors notice every new girl you bring to your house but they never see thieves breaking into your house

Which reminds me. It's also funny how people will brand you with a single mistake in life and forget all the good deeds you have done.

Unajua Marvo?

Marvo mgani ule alipatwa na condom tukiwa Sunday school?

Laughs laughs

Eeeh huyo!

Let me give you a short narrative about campus people, because they are the people I have recently dealt with. I'll use Tom and Jerry as examples.

Campus life is underrated. What most people presume is that all campus students do is drink and fuck their way to graduation. But is it? Now that is just being extremely judgmental, it’s unacceptable. If perhaps we, campus students, had enough money to hire a lawyer we could sue y’all asses for defamation.

Jerry never really knew what he wanted to be in life. I mean, he was pursuing a degree in animal science, not because he loved animals but because having a degree is important nowadays, without it, well, utaambia nini watu. Among other reasons was he wanted to please his parents and fulfill their hopes and dreams to see their child get a better life than they had.

There are dozens of nasty diseases in campus. Top of that list is AIDS, then other major STIs like syphilis, gonorrhea and recently Jakadala. They are deadly. But the mother of them all is peer pressure. Rampant than fire on savannah. Worse than the urge to itch. No one can escape it. Peer pressure leads to decisions that cause STIs.

Jerry wasn’t an exception. Peer pressure hit him like a tsunami. His kryptonite was Tom. Tom made Jerry feel like it was cool to smoke and drink. It was cool to be a player. It was cool miss classes. It was cool to gamble all your HELB money and it was cool cheat in exams. Life’s precious short-cuts.

Rock bottom is a beautiful sight when scuba diving. Jerry was swimming with the fishes before he knew it. Three years of study but not much to show for it. He was suffocating, but opening his mouth would let water in and he would drown. His dying kicks could not propel his massive body weight to the top.

End of story. What's the lesson here?  Well you can learn that it is important to understand what peer pressure is, but the most important thing is to know what is important to you. It's called self realization. Be free and have fun but know when to stop. People can lead you to your grave and walk away to proceed with their lives. Consider yourself a rice grain in a sack, you falling won't even make a difference in weight. Say this with me If you don't take care of you,  who will?  (😂 remember the Detol Ad?)

January has burnt out so fast, Dang! I made huge, life changing decisions that make my heart beat faster everytime I think about it. I didn't make resolutions, well simply because I hardly adhere to them. So I chose to wing it. So far not so bad,  I think. I simply pray for the Almighty's guidance in all the decisions I make. Because that is the only true refuge I or anyone can have. The future is blurry but lets live in the now where there is clarity.

People will always be full of surprises. Good and Bad surprises. But God made us like so, to bring about balance. I hope this year will be full of good surprises for us all.
